Direct Purchase of Services
- To ensure clients have access to services that assist them to find and keep jobs, the Ministry of Social Development offers the BC Employment Program and the Employment Program for Persons with Disabilities.
- Direct Purchase of services complement the performance-based services that assist clients move into employment. It is available where:
- Ministry contracted services are not available in a community
AND/OR
- Clients need assistance to ensure they meet the basic requirements to participate in ministry contracted programs.
- Direct Purchase of services enable regional staff to make decisions, where appropriate and on an individual basis, for the purchase of services required to move clients into sustainable employment.
- Direct Purchase of Services provide includes:
- Literacy, Adult Basic Education, English as a Second Language
- Certification (short-term courses)
- Fees for validation of foreign credentials
- Program supports (for example, transportation to attend programs)
- Fees for vocational assessments
- Services similar to the BC Employment Program where there is no contracted service provider in specific communities
