Therapeutic Volunteer Supplements

• Some Ministry of Employment and Income Assistance clients with a mental health condition may receive a supplement or other payments from or on behalf of a regional health authority for their participation in a volunteer program or in a mental health or addictions rehabilitation program.

• These clients may keep the full amount of these payments in addition to their income assistance.
  
  
•   Therapeutic volunteer supplements and other volunteer payments encourage volunteering as an activity that increases employability and independence, and also offset the personal costs associated with volunteering.
  
  
• In addition, Ministry of Employment and Income Assistance clients with a mental health condition are eligible for a $500 earnings exemption if they are designated as a Person with Disabilities or as a Person with Persistent Multiple Barriers.
