Employment Program for Persons with Disabilities

Beginning in July 2007, the new Employment Program for Persons with Disabilities will offer individualized services that include: in-depth career planning, skills assessment, pre-employment services, job training and placement, provision of necessary employment supports, disability management assistance, follow-up workplace support and employment crisis services.

To assist all British Columbians with disabilities with participating in the workforce, the program may provide transportation assistance such as bus tickets or employment supports such as work boots. Program participants may, in some cases, receive a work experience placement to gain skills prior to entering the workforce. As part of follow-up workplace support, individuals may receive post-placement coaching and help mediating a conflict with an employer or arranging to have a disability accommodated within the workplace.

The successful service providers, chosen after a year-long program development and procurement process, are:
